What to Wear for Your Engagement Session

If you're anything like me, you've probably been planning (or trying to) engagement session outfits for months. There's no need to put all that pressure on the perfect outfit. Here's a simple guide to help you show up feeling like yourself & get some beautiful pictures in the process.

Coordinate, don't match.

Identical outfits can look a little costume-y. Instead, pull from a shared color palette — whatever speaks to you. Think navy and dusty rose, or cream and olive — so you look intentional together without looking like a set.

Avoid busy patterns and logos.

Bold graphics, large plaids, and visible brand logos draw the eye away from your faces and tend to date the photos. When in doubt, go simpler.

Dress for the location.

A flowy dress reads beautifully in a field. Structured, tailored pieces work great in an urban setting. A cozy sweater feels right in the woods. Think about what fits the environment, not just what hangs nicely in a closet.

Bring a second outfit.

Two looks give your gallery more variety and make the session feel like more than one moment in time. A casual first look and something slightly dressier for the second is a combination that almost always works.

Wear something you feel good in.

Confidence shows up on camera in a way that's hard to fake. If you're tugging at your hem or uncomfortable in your shoes, it reads. Wear what makes you feel like you.

A meaningful necklace, a hat you actually wear, a jacket with some texture, a detailed heel — small details add character without overwhelming the overall look.

The most important thing you can wear to your shoot? Yourself.
